A2B-ONLINE CONTAINER CONFIRMS NEW SHORT SEA SERVICE TO PORT OF BLYTH
An agreement has been reached between A2B-online Container and Port of Blyth international logistics subsidiary Transped Limited, to commence a new twice weekly short sea service between Moerdijk and Blyth. At the same time A2B-online Container will be upgrading their Teesport Service.
Port of Blyth Chief Executive, Martin Lawlor confirmed: “We are delighted to have secured the long term future of a regular short sea European container service into Blyth and to be working with A2B-online Container in what we hope will be a long term partnership. A2B-online are an established reliable and professional operator and are determined to help us to grow the business and improve the service in the future.”
“It has been a team effort of both sides” explains Gerard de Groot, Managing Director of A2B-online Container. “The spirit in which we have discussed matters to establish this co-operation has been very good.” Furthermore, he continues: “Blyth is close to Scotland which is interesting for us and with the 2nd call into Teesport now as well we cover the whole of the East Coast of the UK. This will create a tremendous spin-off for our own door to door business as well as for all our third party customers with their shippers owned equipment to use Moerdijk as the most ideal hub or depot. We will start with two calls per week to Blyth of which one will be in combination with Teesport. Knowing the potential of both ports and their Hinterland we may increase the frequency and capacity during 2015.”
Michael van Keulen, Operations Director of A2B-online Container adds: “It means that we will add a fourth ship to the current fleet which will give us more flexibility. Also the ships that we employ can go to all ports and terminals that we use. The ship that we have chartered for Blyth is the MS ‘Anja’ a 320 TEU container vessel. She has been with us earlier until we replaced her for the MS ‘Alma’ which is a slightly bigger vessel. Both ships by the way are from the same Dutch owner Holwerda.”
Kees Vierhouten, the main investor in A2B-online Container, concludes: “As I have said previously the reason for our success is the cluster of our customers, partners, suppliers, management and staff of both A2B-online trailer- and container division. With this new partnership with Transped Limited and the Port of Blyth it confirms my earlier view. It has been the objective to establish a very efficient and effective trustworthy short sea company. I believe that we have succeeded in doing this and knowing the team we will continue to grow the business.”
