CCT's 20th anniversary partner

A perfect opportunity for Michael van Keulen (Managing Director A2B-online Container B.V.) to congratulate our partner on its  anniversary and to briefly take a closer look at A2B-online’s partnership with CCT. On 1 May 2024, CCT celebrated its 20th anniversary.

Celebration for CCT: We congratulate our partner in Moerdijk on its 20th anniversary; the entire team and Managing Director Luc Smits in particular. In the past 20 years, CCT has grown into a network of terminals and an indispensable link in many international cargo flows; what a great achievement! We are grateful for this partnership; for the exceptionally good cooperation and the many great moments we have already experienced together and we confidently look forward to what this partnership will bring us in the future.

Michael van Keulen on the partnership with CCT

The start of the partnership begins in June 2013
“After the demise of the then Moerdijk UK shortsea operator was asked by the sector (customers/terminal ) to write a Business Case for starting a shortsea connection between Moerdijk and the UK. I  already knew the geographical advantages of Moerdijk as well as CCT’s terminal performance – and where there is a will, there is a way: after just a short time of preparation, A2B-online launched in June 2013 and also began its collaboration with CCT.”

In brief, what does CCT’s service consist of?
“CCT acts as a stevedore and provides cross-docking, repairs and transports within the port of Moerdijk in addition to all common terminal operations.”

What is the strength of A2B-online and CCT’s partnership?
“This collaboration can be characterized as a true partnership where decisiveness, short lines of communication, hands-on mentality, trust, openness, honesty, entrepreneurship – and sometimes disagreeing with each other! – are the ingredients.”

One milestone to highlight
“To name one milestone is difficult, there are many. But if I must  pick  one, it’s the conclusion of the 10-year contract that we established on the 10th anniversary of A2B-online container B.V. A contract like that says it all, right?”

How do you see the future of this partnership?
We are on our way to write part 2 of the “beautiful boys’ book” (as Luc Smits of CCT so aptly put it) with all the challenges and great opportunities that will undoubtedly come along again. In partnership we trust!”

Steel cutting first newbuild vessel A2B-online

Today was the day: the steel cutting of our first newbuild vessel, the A2B Vision. We’ve been eagerly looking forward to the steel cutting of our first newbuild vessel, the substantial part of the ship’s construction, the foundation of the construction! In the presence of colleagues, the festive ceremony took place at the shipyard in Turkey this morning (click here to see an impression of the ceremony).

Word of thanks
After the intensive period of preparation, we are delighted and proud to share this milestone with the world outside today. A word of thanks to all involved for their part in making this dream a reality, especially our investors, the Hamburg-based design and engineering company Technolog Services, our yard Sedef Shipyard in Turkey and all colleagues involved. Without their trust, commitment and expertise, we would not have been able to celebrate this milestone today!

About A2B-online’s fleet revitalisation

Taking a longer-term view, A2B-online is implementing a fleet revitalisation programme. In June 2023, A2B-online announced it had ordered the construction of the first 2 new container ships, with a strong focus on sustainable performance and optimized efficiency. The first newbuild vessel is forecast to be commissioned in autumn 2025. The construction and commissioning of the second newbuild vessel, the A2B Progress will follow three months after the first vessel.

Sustainable choices
The vessels have an improved intake for 45-feet containers and tanktainers resulting directly into 50% CO2 reduction per container compared to the existing fleet. The vessels are designed with a Methanol based propulsion system enabling us to carry  our clients valuable containers at sea compliant to the most stringent European rules. Next to this future compliant power plant the vessel includes energy reducing features further reducing greenhouse emissions.

The European Union is implementing a new customs pre-arrival security and safety programme, underpinned by a large-scale advanced cargo information system – Import Control System 2 (ICS2). The implementation of this system at the end of 2024 impacts the information shared between A2B-online and customers. 75 new trailers in the fleet

In June, 75 new trailers are being introduced into the A2B-online fleet. The first of these trailers are going into service this week. All built to the latest specifications, with the biggest benefit being the improved quality of the floor. These trailers are replacing the oldest ones in the fleet, which are being retired.

With the excellent relationship and past experiences we have chosen to purchase from Krone Trailer.
