New barge service Moerdijk - Duisburg

From the 3rd of February 2025, A2B-online in cooperation with WEC Lines, Tailwind Shipping Lines and Danser Group will offer a new barge connection. This new service, named MDC (Moerdijk – Duisburg Corridor) and operated with the ms TRANQUILO, will start up with 2 sailings per week between Moerdijk (CCT) to Duisburg (Duisburg Gateway Terminal, DGT) and seamlessly connects to existing (short sea) connections from Moerdijk.

’By providing this new service,
we are connecting the ports of Moerdijk and Duisburg

and offer our customers a reliable, sustainable and competitive alternative
to road transport on this important corridor.’

Michael van Maurik
General Manager Transport & Logistics A2B-online Container B.V.

Frequency of departures Moerdijk – Duisburg Corridor
Duisburg is where the new terminal DGT is located from which it operates sustainably.  Every Monday afternoon and Wednesday evening there is a barge departure from Moerdijk to this new terminal; every Tuesday and Friday evening the barge departs in the opposite direction.  The aim is first to provide a stable service with a reliable scheduled service and to increase the frequency of departures in the future.

Intermodal hub Moerdijk
With this new service, the Ruhr area is now also accessible from Moerdijk via water. Like the recently launched A2B-online Express that operates between Moerdijk and Northern Italy, this new scheduled service also means an expansion of the Port of Moerdijk as an intermodal hub. At the same time, this barge connection also contributes to making the road network on the Moerdijk-Ruhr corridor more sustainable and less congested.

These 3 companies proved to be perfect partners for A2B-online in realizing this barge service.
WEC Lines & Tailwind Shipping Lines, like A2B-online, are fulfilling their customers’ needs with this service. For Danser Group, the operator of this barge, this service means a valuable extension of its own network. The cooperation in realizing this new barge service offers perspective to intensify the collaborations in the future and further expand the service supply.

Increase frequency barge service between Moerdijk and Duisburg

9 April 2026 – A2B-online Container B.V. is pleased to announce a significant expansion of its barge service connecting CCT Moerdijk (NL) and DGT Duisburg (DE). As of April 26th, the service frequency will be increased from two to three sailings per week.

Strategic Growth
This expansion is realized in close cooperation with our partners, WEC Lines and Tailwind. The MS Rulicia will be deployed to maintain this enhanced service. This move strengthens the intermodal link between one of the Netherlands’ premier shortsea hubs and the heart of the German hinterland.

Mitigating the Dutch Truck Toll
This third weekly rotation arrives at a critical time for the industry. With the upcoming implementation of the Dutch truck toll (vrachtwagenheffing) the ‘modal shift’ from road to water offers a direct financial advantage. By opting for inland shipping, shippers can effectively bypass the additional costs of the new road tax, ensuring their supply chains remain competitive.

Michael van Keulen, Managing Director A2B-online Container B.V.:
“This expansion to three weekly sailings is a direct result of our customers’ continued support. It not only provides greater flexibility but also serves as an essential buffer against rising road transport costs and the upcoming Dutch truck toll.”

Key Benefits
The enhanced schedule delivers immediate value for shippers and forwarders:

  • Cost-Efficiency: Avoid the new truck toll and rising fuel surcharges.
  • Increased Capacity: Greater availability for both door-to-door and quay-to-quay shipments.
  • Sustainability: Significant reduction in CO2 emissions by supporting the transport-by-water initiative.
  • Enhanced Flexibility: Improved synchronization with deepsea and shortsea vessel arrivals in Moerdijk.

Arledo and A2B-online, partners in logistics

17 February 2026 – A Successtory … What began 12 years ago with a single trailer in a garage has evolved into an intensive partnership. At the end of February, our Equipment Manager, Jaco van Eijk, caught up over coffee with Dominic Prins from Arledo BV (a specialist garage in Waddinxveen with over 30 years of experience in all types of commercial vehicles). What started as an appointment to unstack a delivery of six brand-new container chassis turned into an inspiring conversation about a collaboration that has stood the test of time for over a decade.

This is why this partnership works so well

Direct communication and fast decision-making.

✅ A shared vision on maintenance and safety.

✅ No fuss, just solution-oriented thinking.

21 January 2026  A2B-online Container B.V. has achieved its first Lean & Green Star, marking an important step in the company’s ongoing sustainability efforts.  The Star is awarded to organisations that can demonstrably reduce CO2 emissions within their logistics operations. Laura van Marrewijk (project manager Lean & Green NL) visited Moerdijk last week to celebrate this achievement with us and to give a presentation on the Lean & Green programme and the results we have achieved so far. The presentation was followed by the official awarding of the certificate.

About Lean & Green
Lean & Green is a recognized CO2 reduction programme for the logistics sector. Participating companies work in a structured and measurable way to lower their environmental impact, with progress acknowledged through a Star system.

First Lean & Green Star first stap
A2B-online will continue to build on this foundation and is currently developing an organisation-wide green strategy to further define and quantify its sustainability objectives.
