In late February, Jaco van Eijk (Manager Equipment at A2B-online) visited Arledo B.V. in Waddinxveen. The occasion was the delivery of six brand-new container chassis, three of which were being unloaded that very morning.
We used this moment to go behind the scenes of this family business and talk to Dominic Prins, who owns the company together with his brother Leon.
Meet Arledo
“Arledo is a family business founded over thirty years ago by our father, Aris,” Dominic explains. “While our father has since retired, Leon and I have taken over the reins. Leon serves as the Managing and Commercial Director, while I am responsible for the financial side. We work with a team of thirty professionals, twenty-five of whom are in the workshop servicing all types of commercial vehicles.”
The brothers carry forward a clear philosophy from their father: a customer can only be cheated once, and then they are gone forever. At Arledo, honesty remains the best policy.
A solution-oriented approach
The partnership began roughly twelve years ago. Today, it is common to see at least two A2B-online trailers in the workshop every day. Because Arledo understands the A2B-online logistics process so well, their response to any request is almost always “Of course!” rather than “No.”
Dominic says: “We are very solution-oriented. Take the assets we are looking at today: they are transported in stacks to keep shipping costs low. Once they arrive here, we find a clever, hands-on way to de-stack them so they can be picked up and put to work immediately.”
Jaco van Eijk adds: “A2B-online Equipment manages a fleet of 510 trailers and 80 container chassis. We rely on Arledo as a key service partner. Our trailers usually come in empty from the Vlaardingen terminal; drivers can swap trailers at Arledo and continue their journey with almost no detour. The cooperation is seamless. If there is an issue, I know I can send it to Arledo and they will handle it. Over the years, I have built a strong bond with Leon Prins and Service Manager John van der Hoeven. It is a true mutual partnership.”
Strategy and craftsmanship
Dominic admits that A2B-online is one of his favorite fleets to see on the road. He appreciates the distinct branding and the strategic thinking behind their equipment.
“Their trailer configurations are efficient, which makes maintenance highly predictable,” Dominic notes. “Jaco doesn’t just say: ‘make it run,’ He really thinks about the lifecycle of each unit. He knows every trailer and the entire process, which is very impressive.”
Jaco values this expertise in return: “Arledo repairs whenever possible instead of just replacing parts immediately. They think along with us: Can it be fixed? Is it worth fixing? Or is it better to replace? Most importantly, they never let a vehicle leave the shop if it isn’t 100% safe.”
A future full of confidence
The relationship is defined by a lack of “fuss” and a high level of mutual trust. Payments are always on time, and any issues are resolved immediately through open communication.
