Steel cutting first newbuild vessel A2B-online

Today was the day: the steel cutting of our first newbuild vessel, the A2B Vision. We’ve been eagerly looking forward to the steel cutting of our first newbuild vessel, the substantial part of the ship’s construction, the foundation of the construction! In the presence of colleagues, the festive ceremony took place at the shipyard in Turkey this morning (click here to see an impression of the ceremony).

Word of thanks
After the intensive period of preparation, we are delighted and proud to share this milestone with the world outside today. A word of thanks to all involved for their part in making this dream a reality, especially our investors, the Hamburg-based design and engineering company Technolog Services, our yard Sedef Shipyard in Turkey and all colleagues involved. Without their trust, commitment and expertise, we would not have been able to celebrate this milestone today!

About A2B-online’s fleet revitalisation

Taking a longer-term view, A2B-online is implementing a fleet revitalisation programme. In June 2023, A2B-online announced it had ordered the construction of the first 2 new container ships, with a strong focus on sustainable performance and optimized efficiency. The first newbuild vessel is forecast to be commissioned in autumn 2025. The construction and commissioning of the second newbuild vessel, the A2B Progress will follow three months after the first vessel.

Sustainable choices
The vessels have an improved intake for 45-feet containers and tanktainers resulting directly into 50% CO2 reduction per container compared to the existing fleet. The vessels are designed with a Methanol based propulsion system enabling us to carry  our clients valuable containers at sea compliant to the most stringent European rules. Next to this future compliant power plant the vessel includes energy reducing features further reducing greenhouse emissions.

On 1 August 2019, A2B-online started A2B-online Ship Management in order to offer our container customers a stable high(er) quality and to be less dependent on market developments; the start of a wonderful adventure!

Now 5 years later, our shipping company with 7 owned ships (including maintenance, procurement and crew matters ), 2 ships under construction and 170+ colleagues (office and crew) has become an indispensable link in our services. Many thanks to all 🙏 who have contributed to this!

Get ready for ICS2!

The European Union is implementing a new customs pre-arrival security and safety programme, underpinned by a large-scale advanced cargo information system – Import Control System 2 (ICS2). The implementation of this system at the end of 2024 impacts the information shared between A2B-online and customers. Would you like to know more about ICS2, its impact, the documents required and the timeline?

75 new trailers in the fleet

In June, 75 new trailers are being introduced into the A2B-online fleet. The first of these trailers are going into service this week. All built to the latest specifications, with the biggest benefit being the improved quality of the floor. These trailers are replacing the oldest ones in the fleet, which are being retired.

With the excellent relationship and past experiences we have chosen to purchase from Krone Trailer.

Celebration of 10th anniversary of A2B-online Container B.V.

On Friday, 8 September 2023 we celebrated the 10th anniversary of A2B-online Container B.V. With a mixed delegation of A2B-online colleagues present, we welcomed more than 100 partners in Lage Zwaluwe aboard the fully electric-powered ship Z9 to celebrate this milestone during a cruise around Moerdijk and its surroundings of several hours. A visual impression of this dag with a golden lining!
