Our Container Services
Are you looking to work with an experienced multimodal shortsea operator? Offering a stable service to and/or from the United Kingdom? Based in Moerdijk with our own 45ft containers and ships, A2B-online can offer the flexible container and shipping service you are looking for.
shortsea Container Services
We offer our customers two Container Services:
- We pick up, ship and deliver cargo from door to door (with our Door/Door Container Service)
- We ship cargo from port to port (with our Quay/Quay Container Service)
In addition to our own fleet of about 2.400 (45ft HCPW) containers, we also ship “shippers owned containers” for our customers. For these shortsea services, we use 7 of our own vessels.
The advantages
of the Port of Moerdijk
Shorter driving route
Moerdijk is conveniently located between Rotterdam and Antwerp, meaning significantly shorter driving time compared to other shortsea terminals.
Less congestion
The infrastructure of Moerdijk is located outside of the congested and heavily used road network around Rotterdam.
Multimodal transport hub
In addition to container transport by truck, there are various inland shipping and train connections, such as rail connections to and from Moerdijk to Belgium, Germany, Italy and Poland.
Furthermore, Moerdijk is A2B-online’s hub for services to/from the UK and can connect with shortsea services to/from Spain, Portugal, Norway and Ireland.
What kind of cargo do we transport in our containers? We transport everything that you want to convey in your containers or those of third-party container operators (and potentially in our 45ft containers), as allowed by legal regulations. In this way, we transport, among others:
- paper and packaging materials
- electronics
- consumer goods
- food, beer, beverages
- household articles
- pet supplies
- building materials
- plants, garden articles and agricultural products
- chemicals, gas and polymer industrial goods

The cost of container transport depends on various factors. Is our 45ft container suitable for your cargo? How and where are we going to load / unload? Is it a one time transport or a fixed flow? What is the best option for your transport? Our team of professionals are happy to help and advise you. Please feel free to contact us for more information.
1. What is the difference between Door/Door and Quay/Quay container transport?
With the Door/Door Container Service, A2B-online manages the entire trajectory: from the customer’s loading address to the discharge address on the other side of the North Sea, including subsequent road transport and customs clearance. With the Quay/Quay Container Service, A2B-online only handles the crossing from terminal to terminal; the customer or their forwarder arranges the pre- and post-carriage, customs formalities, and registration in Portbase.
2. Which ports and destinations does A2B-online serve?
From the terminals in Moerdijk and Rotterdam-Botlek, A2B-online sails daily to several ports on the east coast of the United Kingdom, including Teesport, Immingham, and Tilbury. Additionally, from Moerdijk there are rail connections to Milan, Antwerp, Duisburg/Ludwigshafen, and Wroclaw, among others, and Moerdijk acts as a hub for shortsea connections to Spain, Portugal, Norway, and Ireland.
3. Why does A2B-online depart from the Port of Moerdijk and not from Rotterdam?
The Port of Moerdijk is favourably located between Rotterdam and Antwerp, which in many cases results in a shorter driving route than other shortsea terminals. This leads to cost savings for the customer. In addition, the infrastructure surrounding Moerdijk is situated outside the congestion-prone and congested motorway network around Rotterdam, resulting in fewer delays. Moerdijk is also a multimodal hub with direct connections to both inland waterway shipping (barge) and rail connections.
4. What goods am I allowed to transport in a container with A2B-online?
A2B-online transports virtually all types of cargo permitted by law, including paper and packaging materials, electronics, consumer goods, food and beverages (including beer and drinks), household items, pet supplies, construction materials, plants and agricultural products, and products from the chemical, gas, and polymer industries, as well as recyclables.
5. How much does container transport to and from the United Kingdom cost?
The price of a container shipment depends on several factors: whether the 45ft container is suitable for the cargo, where and how loading and discharging takes place, and whether it concerns a one-off transport or fixed flows. A2B-online advises on an inquiry-by-inquiry basis and prefers to work on the basis of personal contact with the sales team.
6. Can I also have my own container (shipper's owned container) shipped?
Yes. In addition to our own fleet of approximately 2,400 containers, A2B-online also ships ‘shipper’s owned containers‘ for customers operating with their own equipment.
