Important updates regarding truck road tax of 1 July 2026
Starting 1 July 2026, changes regarding road tax and kilometre charges for commercial freight transport will come into effect in both the Netherlands and Flanders. A2B-online would like to inform you about this new regulation and its impact on our transport operations.
New truck toll system in the Netherlands
Starting 1 July 2026, a new truck toll system will be introduced across nearly all Dutch motorways and a number of regional and local roads. Truck owners will be charged per kilometre driven — on both loaded and unloaded journeys. The rate depends on the vehicle’s weight, Euro emission standard, and CO₂ emission class. For a standard Euro VI diesel truck-trailer combination exceeding 32 tonnes, the charge will be €0.201 per kilometre.
CO₂ surcharge in Flanders
Simultaneously, from 1 July 2026, Flanders will introduce a CO₂-based surcharge on the kilometre charge for trucks. Rates will be differentiated based on CO₂ emission classes rather than the Euro standard. This will lead to a substantial increase in kilometre costs. For example, a vehicle weighing more than 32 tonnes, Euro VI, classified in CO₂ emission class 1, currently pays €0.204 per kilometre, but will see that rate rise to €0.286 per kilometre — an increase of €0.082 per kilometre.
Impact on our services
Anticiperend on these regulatory changes, we have conducted a thorough analysis of our operational transport data. We have now reached out to our clients directly to inform them of the exact impact on the services we provide. To process the additional toll costs as accurately and transparently as possible, we have used historical data to project the costs for both Fcl, FTL and LTL shipments. This methodology accounts for necessary empty kilometres and applies a proportional distribution per loading metre for less-than-truckload shipments.
Transparency and follow-up
A2B-online is fully committed to ensuring transparency throughout this implementation. Our commercial teams have mapped out the specific cost calculations and are currently sharing the updated price lists directly with our relations.
